Ethan Cole

Ethan Cole is the main character of Area 51.Ethan Cole is a trained biologist and a trained soldier, although little is known about Cole's childhood or parents. The skills he acquired as a marksman and tactician  served him well in his military career.Cole's main areas of expertise in Bravo Team are organic waste and viral attacks.He is voiced by David Duchovny.

Background 

Ethan Cole is a mission specialist with HAZMAT Team Bravo.A trained biologist, his exceptional marksmanship and tactical skills served him well in his Army career.Cole's primary job with HAZMAT Team Bravo is operating a scanner, which is the primary means of gathering information as the team develops countermeasures against viral threats.The down-to-earth son of a doctor and respected university professor, Cole doesn't believe in the existence of little green people.

Prior to the Area 51 incident, Ethan stated that he had been deployed on several missions for HAZMAT Bravo, stating that he and his team had had to use force against hostile lifeforms before, although the nature of these missions is unclear.

Event Area 51

Dreamland

After entering Dreamland, Ethan and his team are quickly sent to Area 51, but enemy agents sabotage the truck, temporarily disabling the elevator.Cole and McCann are sent in pursuit of the agent, but after a brief firefight the agent is killed. Cole and McCann return to the elevator and begin their descent to Area 51.

The hot zone

After descending into Area 51, the team encounters two soldiers fighting waves of mutants. Cole and the rest of the team come to their aid and help repel the attack.

 After the battle, they receive orders to activate the generators again.Cole and McCann go to the generator room and restart the generators.As they leave the room, McCann is ambushed by the mutants and is decapitated.Ethan then kills the mutant and returns to the rest of the team

After McCann is killed, Crispy wants to return to the ground, but the exit is congested and they have no choice but to move forward.As they make their way through the facility, they encounter other soldiers along the way who help them advance through the facility.

 They then reach a large door and Cole is sent to disable the controls so Bravo Team can go through the door.

 As they open it, a motor near the door explodes, causing the fire door to close.Ramirez and Crispy manage to arrive, but the door closes before Ethan can arrive. As Ramirez and Crispy attempt to open the door, a creature (presumably Theta, as its roar can be heard during the cutscene) attacks, killing Ramirez and wounding Crispy.When Cole reaches Crispy, he mutates into a mutant and attacks Cole. Ethan has no choice but to kill Crispy. 

Post Bravo team wipe out

After the rest of his team is killed, Cole has no choice but to continue the mission. Ethan finally reaches the communications center and discovers that HAZMAT Team Delta has returned to the weapons range.Ethan then fights his way towards them and merges with Team Delta.

When Cole arrives at HAZMAT Team Delta, they have just fought off a new wave of mutants and the turret they were deployed to support is out of ammunition. Cole is sent to get more ammunition from the armory. After finding ammunition, he reloads the turret.Cole is then ordered to repair the communication system.

After finding tools and repairing the facility, HAZMAT Delta learns that there is an armory nearby. Cole and Lt. Chew go to the armory to get explosives.After fighting their way through a mutant-infested hallway, Ethan and Chew find an explosive.

 When bitten, the explosive is placed at the edge of the weapon's range. Cole climbs onto one of the turrets and sets off the explosive, triggering a huge wave of mutant attacks.

 After fighting off the mutants, Cole and Hazmat Delta make their way to the opening Cole created with the explosive, but are attacked by Theta, who kills everyone but Cole and Chew.Cole and Chew reach an elevator shaft, but Cole says "it's too big for our guns."

 As they climb the shaft, a Black Ops soldier activates a bomb in the elevator shaft, destroying the elevator and causing Cole and Chew to fall into the shaft.Chu falls to his death, and Ethan is attacked and infected by mutants, after which Ethan is contacted by Edgar through a form of telepathy, who tells Cole that if he can find an anti-mutagen drug, he will have a better life.

Cole as a Mutant 

 Cole was infected with a mutagen after falling down a shaft.Edgar then communicated through him, telling him of a better death.His mind became somewhat primitive, but he gained superhuman strength, allowing him to perform attacks that normal mutants could not perform.

 After surviving some Black Ops soldiers, he found a machine that allowed him to regain some of his humanity.After this ordeal, Dr.Winston Clay takes him to his lab to find a cure.

Dr.Clay 

Dr.Clay is a scientist who helped develop the virus, but when he found out that the pact would destroy the world, he released the virus to stop Grey and the Illuminati from fulfilling the pact.The Illuminati then began to attack Dr.Clay. He was cornered in his lab, but Clay was prepared for the attack.

Still, it was only a matter of time before his defenses crumbled, but Dr. Clay found Cole and told him to come closer.When Ethan Cole arrived at Clay's lab, it was attacked, so Ethan fought the Illuminati soldiers and eventually met Dr.Clay. Clay. When Ethan arrived, he was talking to one of his clones, but just after meeting Clay, the Illuminati attacked again, forcing Ethan to fight them again.

  Ethan then returns to Clay and is told to go to the scanner, but the mutants in the lab wake up and kill the scientist inside.Ethan then kills the mutants and is sent to be scanned.

 After the scan, Ethan returns to the doctor. Clay returns, but Illuminati soldiers break into the lab. Ethan fights off the soldiers. Then Ethan meets the doctor one last time. Dr Clay keeps his promise and tries to heal Ethan, but the treatment stops due to an electric shock, and the doctor dies in an explosion.

 Clay Ethan leaves the lab, but is contacted by Edgar again, who tells him to break the pact and search for Ethan, after which Ethan enters an elevator and travels deeper into Area-51.

Final breakthrough

Ethan then has to fight all the remaining mutants and thetas.After finishing, he boards a transport to Edgar's location, where he finds out that Edgar is actually the source of the virus.

 Cole then injects Edgar's blood into his bloodstream to heal himself. Edgar commands Cole to stop the Pact and the Greys' plans to invade Earth.As Cole searches for a generator to disable the force field, he is ambushed by Super Theta, who must destroy it to continue.

 Cole then heads to the mothership's core to destroy/neutralize the mothership and stop the invasion.If Cole destroys the core, he will have to abandon ship before the core is destroyed as well.

 Cole finds a giant teleportation portal inside the alien ship and manages to jump through the portal and escape to the desert environment of Area 51.Returning to the government facility, Cole witnesses a tornado-like explosion erupt from Area 51, completely destroying it.

 The truck the saboteurs were attacking from the start passes Cole from behind a black car.Cole reflects on his original mission at Area 51 and realizes that although he and HAZMAT Team Bravo failed, their sacrifice may have saved humanity.

Personality 

Cole is calm and fearless.He has fought countless mutant hordes, black ops soldiers, terror, and even faced off against Theta, who singlehandedly killed Chu's team.

 Cole seems to be intelligent and observant.During his descent into the underground of Area 51, he constantly thought and pondered on all things related to mutants, Area 51, and the Greys.
