Nick l4d2

The name’s Nick... but don't worry about learning it, ’cause I ain’t stickin’ around long

Background

Nicholas (Nick) is one of the four playable survivors in Left 4 Dead 2.He is a player with a shady, even violent, past.

He doesn't seem to want to fit in at all, and has taken on the role of "whiner", finding fault with others' plans, the increasingly dire state of his once-great suits, and criticizing his teammates for their character flaws. At first this makes him difficult for the others, but that changes over time  as he learns to trust them and proves to be a valuable member of the team.

Nick wears a white suit and a blue shirt, which is said to be worth $3,000. He has several rings on his fingers, one of which has the symbol of a gang that Francis may have belonged to (as Francis has a gang symbol tattoo on his arm), lipstick marks on his collar, and a kiss mark on his neck, indicating that he is a womanizer.

It is said on numerous events that he was already hitched; in case nick listens a Witch, he may say "I think I listen my ex-wife", and in "Hard Rain", he may say "The final time I saw this numerous crying ladies was at my wedding." He shows up to have a few inconvenience with the law as amid the "Dead Center" campaign, upon finding a Level 2 weapon, Nick may say that he isn't lawfully permitted to possess a weapon. Given that nick shows up to be an American citizen and hence secured by the Moment Revision, this likely means that he may be a sentenced criminal and hence not lawfully permitted to claim or carry guns.

Nick's facial highlights are based on Taymour Ghazi and he is voiced by Hugh Dillon.

Relationship with other survivor

Coach

Nick and Coach seem to enjoy insulting each other (similar to Francis and Bill).

Nick is not afraid to insult Coach or make fun of his weight, but does not hesitate to praise him when he manages to kill a special infected.

He seems to respect Coach's position as the group leader, but is often the first to express doubts about the course of action Coach proposes (this is probably just Nick's tendency to complain about everything, but once the concert finale is over and the helicopter arrives, Nick lavishly expresses his gratitude to Coach , although he often expresses doubts about the course of action Coach suggests at first.

Nick is quick to back away when he is clearly upset with Coach, and Coach is quick to fire Nick when his complaints go too far.Their animosity is only verbal, and neither seems to let the other down.

When Nick mourns coach, he sadly says, "Damn, Coach, I'm gonna miss you," but another line of mourning, "Damn, Coach, what have you left for me?", shows that Nick is aware of Coach despite his attitude. His leadership role within the group is acknowledged. In the safe room at the beginning of the amusement park, when Coach mentions the Midnight Riders, Nick responds by asking if they were good.

This is one of the first rare instances where Nick appears to be trying to get to know his teammates.

Ellis

In previous campaigns, Nick showed his disdain for Ellis by looking down on him and constantly mocking everything about him, often implying that Ellis was a typical hillbilly. He pronounces Ellis' name with an exaggerated southern accent and sometimes calls Ellis "Overalls", a name he also gave to Charger.

In "The Passing", his anger at Ellis' obsession with Jimmy Gibbs' stock cars flares up, to the point where Nick threatens to abandon him. However, as the campaign progresses and Ellis proves himself, his respect for the boy grows and his bitterness fades.

For example, at the beginning of "Dark Carnival", Nick Ellis rarely compliments him,and instead teases him in more harmless ways, such as intentionally taunting his idol.

On rare occasions, if only he and Ellis are left alive, Nick may admit that it was a joke.Ellis seems less than interested with Nick's taunts and takes them casually most of the time.

Nick tends to use the age difference between them when talking to Ellis (nicknames include "Kid", "Jock", "Champion","Little Man", "farmer joe", and "Killer", but also treats him as an equal (e.g.

Nick may refer to Ellis as "hey" in a different tone).Nick also mostly reluctantly submits to Ellis, especially in "Dark Carnival".

Ellis is so enthusiastic about the Whispering Oaks ride that she may say, "Now I want to go on a ride" (although this is probably sarcastic).

Nick joins in on the "love" gag in the Tunnel of Love. They also find common ground in their hatred of the infected, one example being the Mudman from "Swamp Fever"

Rochelle

At first, Nick speaks to Rochelle in a patronizing manner, using sarcastic names such as "sweetie," "darling," and "darling. However, Rochelle's wise attitude, calm outlook on the situation, and her own unique sarcasm soon earn her Nick's respect and sympathy.

Like the others, Nick also threatens to get shot.Like with the coach, Nick and Rochelle's interactions consist of exchanging jokes.

After Frances develops feelings for Rochelle and she shows signs of reciprocating, Nick is quick to tease her.

Despite being vocal about his dislike of Frances, he tells her not to play unapproachable characters and encourages her to try, as she is "not getting any younger.

Nick and Rochelle generally get along well.Sometimes, when Nick mourns Rochelle, he says, "I think of the other two people I wish had gone before me" or "That's where the repopulation of the planet goes.

In "Dead Center," when Rochelle dies before entering the elevator, unlike Ellis and Coach, he omits the line, "It doesn't matter now (her name).

They share a similar realistic perspective on the apocalyptic situation, which leads to conversations where Rochelle takes Nick's side, such as when she defends Rochelle for shooting an infected helicopter pilot in "Swamp Fever.

However, her patience with him sometimes reaches its limit. In "The Passing," when Nick repeatedly mocks Ellis' unrequited love for Zoe, she goes so far as to say that she hates him.

Still, the two seem to have more in common than most.Neither of them are from Georgia (Rochelle is from Cleveland, Ohio; Nick never says where he's from, but his accent and the places he mentions suggest he's from somewhere up north).

They have preferences when it comes to weapons (variations of assault rifles). They stand next to each other on all the campaign posters.

Francis

Nick and Francis do not immediately like each other. At the beginning of "The Riverbank", when Francis is around, Nick calls him a "greasy monkey in a vest" and Francis calls him a "suit" or "Colonel Sanders".

Of note is that in one statement, Nick speaks "clearly" and slowly while swearing as if to insult him.During "The Passing", Nick refers to their mission as "lowering the bridge and kicking biker ass".

At times, he tries to get Ellis to help him by saying that he "probably robbed Jimmy Gibbs Jr.and is running away in his car".

Nick also shows great distrust towards Francis, believing that Francis will not keep his promise to lower the bridge. They may exchange further insults when they meet again later.

However, during their alliance against the infected hordes in the finale, Nick is able to thank Francis when Francis, like the other original survivors, throws a painkiller/adrenaline shots and Nick is the one to pick it up.

When Francis speaks of losing a man, Nick is able to apologize for his loss. However, Francis sometimes calls Nick "brother", indicating their common gang affiliation as they share the same symbols (Nick's ring, Francis' tattoo), and when this is brought up (especially at the beginning of "The Riverbank"), their hostility quickly subsided.

Zoey

Like Francis, Nick and Zoey also dislike each other from the moment they first met.Nick belittles her, calling her a "cupcake" and asking if there's a "guy" on the bridge he can talk to.

Not surprisingly, Zoe responds in kind to Nick's inappropriate disrespect, even threatening to hurt or kill him. This causes Nick to relent and say he was joking.

Zoey, like Francis, also derogatorily calls Nick "Colonel Sanders" for wearing a white suit.Like Rochelle's comment about Francis, Nick also mercilessly teases Ellis about his crush on Zoey.

He is able to tell Ellis that Zoey body is too big for him and that he has a better chance with the bride witch, and even suggests Ellis get Zoey name tattooed on his buttocks at a tattoo parlor.

while they reunited in the "The Port" finale, Zoe was the least keen to help Nick, but she joined the others in supporting him as the finale began.

Louis

Nick seems to have a contemptuous attitude towards Louis, which Louis notices.Because of this, Nick is the only survivor whom Louis does not like, with the latter occasionally agreeing with Francis that he is right about the snub and that Bill would have shot him at that point.

Nick is also the only survivor whom Louis did not wish good luck on at the end of "The Passing". However, Nick seems to appreciate Louis' shooting skills and offers to leave Ellis behind so that Louis can accompany him to New Orleans.

In the end, Louis softens his dislike for Nick, although he still does not remember Nick's name.

Nick eventually apologizes to the original survivors for his disrespectful behavior, which they acknowledge, warn him of the incoming infected, help him and the other survivors, and bid everyone farewell as he departs for New Orleans. At one point, he even goes so far as to offer condolences to the other three survivors who lost their comrade Bill.

Personality

Nick's sarcasm, pessimism, and self-centered cynicism make him perhaps the most antagonistic character in the series.Almost everyone he meets quickly notices these qualities and feels wary or active dislike towards him.

Nick's autonomous personality makes it difficult for him to fully integrate into groups. In "Dead Center", he tells others not to remember their names as he doesn't intend to be with them for long, or refrains from saying his name when asked.

Nick is also very blunt when speaking, and does not hesitate to insult others, especially if they have committed a crime against him. This is likely a result of his past as a con man.

Strong hints of a violent and criminal past appear, for example, when he states that owning a firearm is illegal.

He is an expert on first aid kits and, when seriously injured, blurts out "man...hasn't felt this bad in a long time." His occasional allusions to terrifying knowledge include the relative ease or difficulty of removing a brain from a suit or blood from a wedding dress, always with the addition of the sentence:"

Nevertheless, as the game progresses, Nick realizes that he cannot survive on his own and begins to respect his teammates' abilities and share their problems.Nick never completely loses his introspective, self-first attitude, but he does not seem to be as insensitive as he appears.

Nick seems to be very particular about his appearance, reportedly wearing a suit worth $3,000.He often complains that his suit is ruined and dislikes going through dirty or unsanitary places.

Nick believes that the Green Flu epidemic could have been prevented if the world had used more hand sanitizer,[5][6] and complains about the Raeford Historical Underground Tour and the sewers of the "Parish", where he guides and even teases Rochelle.

After the tour, as the survivors go through the sewers, Nick is sometimes mocked by the other survivors for complaining about the sanitation of the sewers and offering them $1,000 if they will give him a piggyback ride through the sewers
